Build a freight empire in Europe

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the much anticipated Euro Truck Simulator sequel. It features improved graphics and allows you to travel around a large selection of central Europe’s highways. In this game, you will embark on a journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Europe, not as an ordinary traveler but as an elite trucker.

Deliver vital cargo across more than 60 cities, including those located in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Poland, among others. Besides that, the game’s customization options offer various performance and cosmetic changes. You can decorate your vehicles with optional lights, bars, horns, beacons, smoke exhausts, and more.

A trucker’s dream

There are many truck simulators out there, but ETS is one of the most famous and best-loved. That is sure to continue with Euro Truck Simulator 2. The trucks look great and are all licensed from companies like Scania, Renault, and MAN. You’ll also be able to customize the performance and look of your trucks too. There are over 60 cities to discover in the UK, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and more. Your task is to build a successful freight company, making deliveries across the continent in good time.

While the focus is obviously driving, doing jobs to earn money, and buying trucks, eventually building your own fleet and hiring other drivers means you can get very involved with the game. It’s not unlike a role-playing game but with trucks and timber instead of dragons and talking trees. Plus, it’s also constantly being updated with more vehicles and tweaks to truck handling and physics, making it ever more realistic. There is also a dedicated community of fans creating mods for the simulator — meaning there’s a ton of stuff you can add for free.

On top of this, there are lots of premium DLCs from developer SCS Software, including a huge additional map pack called Going East, which lets you truck all over Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

It’s a sim

Despite its charms, Euro Truck Simulator 2 can feel a bit daunting and dry for newcomers. Trucking fans will be eager to dive in, but for anyone less sure whether a life behind the wheel is for them, some patience and persistence is required. There’s an introductory tutorial, but you will likely still feel a bit lost once it’s over. Once you’ve gotten into it and mastered the controls, the game gains momentum and rhythm. While it’s a much better-looking sim than its predecessor, if you stop to look around too long, the environments feel stale.

Similarly, while it’s improving, the traffic doesn’t feel quite right. All of this can be forgiven and forgotten if you enjoy long road trips at relatively low speeds.

Upcoming DLCs and locations

Of course, Euro Truck Simulator 2’s team’s commitment to delivering quality content hasn’t come to a stop just yet. There are quite a few maps, trucks, and content in progress, including a much-awaited, major Greece-centric DLC. Headlining these is a snippet from Update 1.50, an in-game iteration of the Scania Demo Centre in Södertälje, Sweden. Players need to own the Scandinavia DLC to explore it once it rolls out, though.

An update to the Wielton Trailer Pack DLC is currently underway, as well. New trailers will be released, including the Wielton Container Master NS3 P20 SL TANK—which is specifically created to transport Chemical Tank Containers—and the Wielton Container Master NS3 P40 SL, which can accommodate 2x20ft containers with ease. Options for Side Protection, Rear Bumpers, Tool Boxes, Optional Spare Tires, Mud Flaps, Paintjobs, and more are also available for these trailers.

Moreover, the upcoming Kögel Trailer Pack DLC has seen some progress, particularly in the trailer side of things. Meanwhile, the research for the upcoming Greece DLC has seen progress, as well, as the team has visited the country in person. No specifics have been confirmed, but fans can expect that the additional content will capture the lovely landscape and the winding roads.

One of the best truck sims out there

Overall, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is one of the best in its class. If truck driving is what you want to do, this is your best option, and it’s lucky to have a very dedicated developer who’s constantly improving the sim and listening to its fans. Its remarkable attention to detail, from the extensive selection of licensed trucks to the intricate customization options, and the simulation of long-haul journeys across Europe, has earned it a place among the most cherished truck simulators.
